Properties
- Gold is the only yellow metal.
- Gold will melt at 1063 degrees Celcius.
- Gold is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity.
- Gold is highly malleable.
- Gold can be rolled so thinly, light will shine through.
- Gold is a ductile metal which means it is capable of being drawn into a thread.
- Gold is unaffected by air, heat or moisture. (It will not rust or corrode.)
- Gold purity is indicated by the measurement “carats”. 24 carats = 100% gold 18 carats = 75% gold.
Purposes
- Gold is principally used as bank gold reserves, and in jewellery and teeth. Gold is used decoratively.
- Gold is used to reflect radiated heat.
- Gold is used in equipment that requires transference of heat or electricity.
